We concluded the first half of our Cross & Crown Values sermon series on Sunday by exploring our fifth key value: Discipleship. This value reminds us that all Christians are called to be disciple-making disciples and not merely churchgoers. As a church, we seek to build ourselves and others to maturity in Christ - growing in godliness and Christ-like character in obedience to Scripture. We saw that the call to discipleship is a call to put Jesus first above all else. Discipleship begins when we recognize Jesus’ lordship, trust Him as Savior, deny ourselves, and follow Him. Following Jesus as His disciples means obeying His commands, imitating His character, and embracing His priorities. We were then reminded of the Great Commission, that making disciples is the mission and responsibility of every believer. If we consider ourselves to be Christians, let us remember that Jesus is Lord of our lives. Let us deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ. And as we follow, let us commit to making disciples of all nations by helping others follow Jesus.
