For Such A Time

In the second sermon of our series through Esther, we explored the rising tension and historical conflict in Esther 2:19-4:17, where God’s people faced hostility and oppression. In a detail that initially seems out of place, we learn that Queen Esther was still hiding her true identity, and that Mordecai had once saved King Ahasuerus’s life by thwarting an assassination plot. We were also introduced to Haman, the second-highest official in the kingdom. Through Mordecai’s refusal to honor Haman, we uncovered the historical enmity between the Benjaminites and Agagites. Filled with fury, Haman deceived king Ahasuerus into issuing a decree for the annihilation of the Jews. As the decree spread throughout the city, Mordecai urged Esther to plead for her people. Though initially hesitant, this became a turning point where Esther stepped forward in faith, courage, and wisdom, agreeing to risk her life for her people. In the New Testament, we see Jesus Christ as the ultimate mediator for His people. As part of God’s definite plan, Jesus was killed by the hands of lawless men; and at the same time, Jesus willingly offered Himself as a sacrifice on the cross. Under God’s sovereignty, nothing is a coincidence - for such a time as this, let us live faithfully wherever He has placed us.
