Last Sunday, we began a new sermon series exploring Cross & Crown Penang’s values. In this 2-part series, we’ll look at five of our church’s ten key values this year, with the remaining five to be covered next year. These values express our commitment to the gospel and sound theology, leading us to live out transformed lives marked by discipleship, love, and a desire to bring the good news of Jesus to the world. We began with our first value: Gospel Centrality, which refers to how we pursue clarity on the gospel in our beliefs and proclamation, keeping the gospel at the heart and motivation of all we do. The gospel is all about who Jesus is and what Jesus has done - a message of grace and salvation. It is of first importance: the central truth and core of the Christian faith. Gospel Centrality is expressed through a gospel-shaped worldview and gospel-driven growth. Only the gospel can save and transform lives. It is not just the gateway we begin the Christian life, but also the pathway we continue in. Let us not assume or relativize the gospel, or reduce Gospel Centrality to a slogan. Rather, may it be a way of life as we commit to being gospel-centered in our conversations, our church, and our hearts.
