We concluded our sermon series through Revelation 6-16 last Sunday by looking at Revelation 15-16. These chapters assure believers that while we may never see true justice in this world, God’s perfect justice will be shown at the end and His people’s hope will not disappoint. As we come to the end of the central cycles of the book, John presents a final vision of the seven bowls. Each vision cycle has increased in intensity, building toward a climax and emphasizing the end when Jesus returns with final judgement. This last cycle of seven bowls is the fullest expression of God’s judgement so far, highlighting the final and climactic outpouring of His justice. We are shown the basis of this judgement: that God is just and holy. The seven bowls display the arrival of God’s wrath as He justly pronounces judgement on the unrepentant. We also see the end point of the spiritual battle between God and Satan, where the Almighty Lord finally defeats all evil. In light of this certain end, let us stay awake, for Jesus can return at any time. Let us not harden our hearts in unrepentance but actively trust in Christ. And let us give thanks for the full and final justice of God that will surely come.
