The third sermon of the series brought us through the dramatic climax of Queen Esther’s story. In Esther 5:1-8:2, we witnessed a great reversal - God humbling the proud and exalting the humble. The narrative follows Esther as she prepares for a moment that will change the course of Israel’s history. Continuing her rise to royalty, we saw Queen Esther’s wisdom and humility in her plan to save her people. The extended scenes between Esther and the king highlight the massive contrast between Esther’s humility, patience, and wisdom, against Haman’s pride, arrogance, and impatience. The sequence of events is divinely reversed as the hidden hand of the sovereign God turns the tables: Mordecai is elevated to take Haman’s place of honor and Haman is brought low in shame. As the tension reaches a boiling point, Queen Esther finally reveals her identity as a Jew, and Haman meets his ironic end - executed on the very gallows he built for Mordecai. The story of Esther foreshadows the ultimate reversal accomplished by Jesus Christ at the cross, fulfilling God’s promise of blessing to Abraham. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, Satan is defeated, God’s people are saved, and Jesus is exalted to reign.
