We looked through Revelation 14:1-15:4 on Sunday to consider two sure and certain eternal outcomes, and we were challenged to faithfully endure in living God’s way. In contrast to the previous chapter, where many are marked by the beast, John sees a vision of God’s redeemed people - marked with the name of the Lamb and the Father. Having been redeemed by Christ’s work, believers stand before God’s throne singing and giving glory to Him. Through the visions of three angels, John presents us with two ways to live: the eternal gospel which calls people to fear and worship God, and the certainty of eternal wrath for those who worship the beast. These sure futures both warn unbelievers and strengthen believers to endure in the faith. The two corresponding futures are then portrayed through the imagery of harvests: salvation of the redeemed and wrath for the condemned. These promising and sobering words urge us to faithfully endure in living God’s way by persisting in obedience to King Jesus. As we grasp the holiness of God and the love of Christ more and more, may it give us confidence in God’s righteous justice and move us to urgently tell others of the eternal gospel of salvation.
